KenzoKi Fresh Jelly and Gumdrops and Nightshift Cream
This was my first experience trying the KenzoKi skincare line. I adore Kenzo perfumes and fragrances so I was delighted to be sent these products to review. KenzoKi Fresh Jelly and Gumdrops and Nightshift Cream are two new additions to the Euphoric Ginger line which uses Ginger Plant water and essential oils as its ingredients. Cultivated specially for Kenzo in East Asia, ginger grows from March to November in the sandy plains. A research program conducted by the Gattefosse Laboratories has shown that ginger plant water defends against free-radical activity. Moreover, by reducing the activity of the tyrosinate (an enzyme involved in skin coloring), this water enhances the skins natural radiance and gives a healthy glow.Â
In all honesty, my results from these two products were a mixed bag.  Being a sales representative for many years, one of the first things I learned was a sales trick technique called the sandwich. If you have bad news, you sandwich it in between good news; the first slice of bread is the good news, the sandwich filling the bad, and more good news with the second slice of bread–therefore the bad is minimized because it’s sandwiched by the good news and the last impression is a positive one.  Join me in a nosh with my  KenzoKi sandwich:
The bread–KenzoKi Nightshift Cream
Nightshift cream is a fluffy lightweight cream with a whipped soufflé-like texture; it resembles marshmallow cream but not nearly as dense. Too bad you can eat it, dammit. Anywho, this delicate cream is designed to be worn at night so the skin can regenerate while you sleep. The thing I like best about this is the lightweight texture, most night creams are too rich and thick for me and I wake up with the likes of the BP oil spill on my forehead. Not. Even. Kidding. Nightshift cream is highly fragranced but it dissipates fairly quickly although I can smell it faintly on my pillow which I enjoy. For those beauties with very dry skin, I’m betting this would make a very nice day cream. At $60 for a 1.7 oz jar, it’s not inexpensive but truly you only need a pea size amount for your whole face and a tinch (remember my new word) for your neck so this jar will last you a good long time–probably at least 6 months. Kenzo nightshift cream claims by morning your skin will look smoother, fresh and more youthful. While I don’t think I’ve aged backwards in the two plus weeks I’ve been using this cream, my skin is undeniably softer and I definitely notice a brightness that wasn’t there before. Win!
The filling–KenzoKi Fresh Jelly and Gumdrops
This is where the sandwich filling (or also known as the negative) come in. Fresh Jelly and Gumdrops aside from the cute name is a major disappointment. It is supposed to exfoliate, cleanse and purify the skin. It fails on all three measures. Call me picky but when I use a scrub I expect it to cleanse as well as exfoliate my skin. This does not cleanse at all–not one bit. After washing and rubbing the little beads around on my face, my skin was still not clean. How do I know? First, because my skin didn’t feel clean….at…..all. Second, because I always use a toner after cleansing to get any makeup residue and prepare my skin for whatever treatment products I’m using and my cotton pads were full of makeup after cleansing with Fresh Jelly and Gumdrops. As for exfoliation, the beads didn’t scrub, they just sort of melted adding more gumminess (another new word) to the whole mess. The texture of the gel was too thick and well… gelatinous and felt kinda gross on my skin. KeznoKi, this needs to be re-formulated and quickly! At $34 for a 2.7 oz. bottle this is not a smart purchase in my opinion.
Now for more bread!
My good friend PinkSith has tried many KenzoKi skincare products with tremendous success so I suspect the Fresh Jelly and Gumdrops is an aberration within the line. On the plus side, the Nightshift cream is a real find and something I will spend my hard earned cash on when I need to replenish.
